Overview of the Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB) JODDB was established in 1999 as an independent military/civilian institution, operating under the umbrella of the Jordan Armed Forces, to be a leading center in research, design, development and manufacturing in the fields of various defense systems. The Bureau is distinguished in the Middle East and North Africa region through its dedication to promoting and applying excellence in design, development, testing and evaluation, embracing technology and providing a wide range of products, services and capacities in the fields of: ground systems, weapons and ammunition, electronics and electro-optics, personal protective equipment, future technology and training projects within the Free Zone specialized in the defense industry. The design and development stages start by defining the user’s requirements according to the nature of the threat or the potential threat. Following that, the prototype will be evaluated, and the technologies required to complete it will be defined. After the design of the prototype is completed, a series of experiments will be carried out at the Inspection and Evaluation Center; a one that specializes in vehicle, weapon, ammunition, and military equipment testing, in addition to the inspection of shielding materials. After passing the requisite experiments and testing, the prototype is transferred to one of the Bureau's enterprises to begin mass production, according to the specialization of each. It's worth mentioning that the Examination and Inspection Center has another function: it examines gadgets, equipment, and materials that the Jordan Armed Forces and Security Services purchase from overseas. Through the implementation of its strategy, the Bureau also seeks to build capacities in the field of developing the human element, qualifying engineers and increasing their knowledge in scientific research, design and development, as well as developing realistic solutions that contribute to increasing the defense requirement's strength. Further, the Defense Technology Course, held in association with Cranfield University, is considered one of the significant approaches contributing to this vision. Furthermore, through the Bureau’s Department of Research and Scientific Cooperation, located at the campus of the University of Jordan, the Bureau seeks to form partnerships with Jordanian universities to create an environment in which students can implement their research and scientific projects and adopt what is applicable to serve the Bureau's objectives. Vision: Pioneering in innovation and providing optimal solutions in defense and security fields in the region.
