The Rapid Deployment Force (UNSAS) known as
the Reserve Arrangements System, is based on the opening of an international
force in the conflict zone within 3-10 days to alleviate human and security
suffering and until a Security Council resolution sets out the nature and scale
of the anticipated peacekeeping mission. The High-Readiness Brigade (SHIRBRIG) formed
at the request of the UN Secretary-General and consisting of a number of
European Community countries as well as a number of South American and African
countries — membership grades vary depending on the nature of the participation
required — and Jordan participates in this brigade as an observer with the
possibility of adjusting the degree of membership at a later date.
