At dawn on Wednesday, the Eastern Military Zone successfully thwarted an attempted infiltration and smuggling operation involving large quantities of narcotics from Syrian territory into the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

An officer at the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces stated: “Border Guard units operating under the Eastern Military Zone, in close coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, succeeded in intercepting and preventing a major smuggling attempt.”

He explained that surveillance units detected a group of smugglers attempting to illegally breach the border. Quick Reaction Forces responded immediately, engaging per established rules of engagement, which forced the smugglers to retreat back into Syrian territory. Subsequent search and sweep operations led to the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics, which were handed over to the competent authorities.
